Reverse Engineering Project
Reverse Engineering is an important process in the documentation and redesign of products. Through reverse engineering all aspects of a product can be analyzed. There are many reasons to reverse engineer a product. The information gathered during this process can provide information on products for which documentation has been lost. Reverse engineering can help the designer or team determine what they can do to make the product better and optimize manufacturing potential to increase company profits. Often, reverse engineering is necessary in order to provide details necessary to provide interoperability between existing and new products or to provide information on competitor products. This activity provides me the opportunity to practice skills learned in previous units by measurement, sketching, and solid modeling the parts of the (Automoblox vehicle/ your chosen part). I also had the opportunity to create assembly models and produce an assembly drawing.
Visual Analysis
This activity describes the object using the language of visual design principles and elements.
Functional Analysis
The
next step in the reverse engineering process involves the study of the object’s
function. This is done through careful observation of the object’s sequential
operation before it is disassembled. By first observing the product, I can
hypothesize how a product operates and then compare my predictions to the
actual findings after the part is dissected.
Structural Analysis
In this activity I disassembled the product to
investigate vital product characteristics and test my hypothesis as to the
operation of the product. I also investigated the structural composition
of the product. During the disassembly process, I will researched and documented
my findings by using careful measurements, sketches, and notes. The information
Irecorded will helped me in the next activity which will include 3D modeling,
analysis, and redesign of the product.
